We are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented, and innovative Assistant Program Director to join our New York City team and contribute to our goal of making a difference.

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Program Director plays a critical leadership role in the day-to-day operations of dWELL Recovery. This position partners closely with the Program Director to ensure operational excellence, staff accountability, high-quality resident support, and a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented community environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role that blends program management, team supervision, resident oversight, and cross-department collaboration. The ideal candidate is organized, emotionally intelligent, and highly accountable, with strong experience in behavioral health, substance use recovery, or residential treatment settings.

What You Will Do:

Program Leadership & Administration:

  • In collaboration with the Program Director, oversight of the day-to-day operations of dWELL Recovery Main House.
  • Responsible for developing the weekly employee schedule and ensuring mandated coverage is implemented for each shift.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains and supervises House Managers and Resident Advisors of dWELL Recovery Main House in collaboration with Program Director.

Resident Support & Case Management: 

  • In collaboration with the Program Director will be responsible for resident and family case management which includes overseeing resident schedules and conducting regular ADL apartment checks to help develop and maintain client goals.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director, ensures new admissions, movements of residents, and discharges are communicated to the Main House team.  Ensures that protocols are completed and accurately documented.  
  • Responsible for completing and providing oversight of the team in ensuring that residents are adherent to their medications, assist with refills, and weekly pill organization refills.
  • Assist in providing crisis intervention, as necessary.

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Attend weekly meetings with the interdisciplinary team to discuss clinical, financial, and organizational needs.
  • Work with the admissions team to ensure accurate information is communicated to the Main House team about bed flow, admissions, and discharges.  Conduct dWELL Recovery tours to families of prospective residents, as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director and Operations Manager, monitors the dWELL Main House budget and expense report.In collaboration with the Program Director, conduct Quality Assurance Reviews (audits) 

What You Need to Qualify:

  • Bachelor's (required) MA/MS (preferred) - Either or both in social science field
  • Ideal candidate has at least 3 years related experience with Substance Use Disorders and 12-Step Recovery Model
  • Ideal candidate has at least 3 years of related experience in adolescent or young adult treatment center
  • Ideal candidate has at least 3 years experience of experience in Mental Health Facility, Program Management; Crisis Management
  • Must have strong supervisory or managerial experience, with a proven ability to lead and develop a team
  • Strong understanding of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, motivational approaches, and crisis intervention.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, boundaries, and composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)

Schedule: 

Mondays and Wednesdays from 12pm-8pm, Tuesdays from 10-6pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 8am-4pm.  Must be able to work one Saturday or Sunday a month on rotation. Availability to provide emergency support onsite and by phone to staff  in monthly leadership rotation for on-call coverage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20–40 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand, walk, or respond quickly during emergencies
  • Ability to walk multiple levels of stairs multiple times daily
  • Must be able to complete facility rounds and inspections

Compensation: $90,000-$100,000 (commensurate with experience)
